FELLOWS INDUCTION CEREMONY

Approximately 230 attorneys and their guests attended the Mississippi Bar Foundation’s 2009 Annual Dinner Meeting on Thursday, April 16 at the Old Capitol Inn. Members of the Foundation gathered to honor and recognize lawyers who have made outstanding contributions to the public and profession. This year the Fellows Induction Ceremony was combined with the Annual Meeting.
Following the reception and dinner, President Colette Oldmixon of Poplarville presided over the annual meeting. Oldmixon presented the President’s Report mentioning the induction of new Fellows, the Memorial Service for deceased Fellows, and highlights of FY 2008-2009.
The Mississippi Bar Foundation recognized outgoing members of the Board of Trustees – Roy D. Campbell, III of Jackson; Hugh D. Keating of Gulfport and Karen K. Sawyer of Gulfport.
Colette Oldmixon received the 2009 Law-Related Public Education Award for her many years of service to the Statewide Mock Trial Competition. The Law-Related Public Education Award is presented to a lawyer or law firm or bar organization for excellence in enhancing the public’s understanding of the law and the legal system.
Circuit Court Judge Henry L. Lackey of Calhoun City and U.S. District Judge L. T. Senter, Jr. of Aberdeen received the Foundation’s 2009 Professionalism Awards, the Foundation’s highest honor presented to an attorney for excellence in enhancing the public’s understanding of the law and the legal system and who exemplifies the best characteristics of the profession.
