2017 MB Award Nominees Solicited

Nominees are being accepted for the three awards presented each year during the Bar's Annual Meeting to individuals that have made significant contributions to the legal profession. The Awards are as outlined.  Distinguished Service Award granted to a lawyer or lay person for outstanding achievement and/or a significant contribution to the legal community beyond his or her normal job duties. The recipient must be cited for specific actions, which occurred no longer than three (3) years immediately prior to the date of presentation.  A nominee not selected shall be removed from consideration three (3) years following his or her nomination, unless re-nominated. The Lifetime Achievement Award is granted for devoted service to the system of American Justice over the span of a professional career.  Only individuals who hold a law degree or who have worked within or contributed significantly to the system of justice will be qualified to receive this award. A nominee not selected shall be removed from consideration three (3) years following his or her nomination, unless re-nominated. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented only on those occasions when a deserving recipient is nominated and selected.  The Judicial Excellence Award nominee should be an exceptional judge who is an example of judicial excellence; a leader in advancing the quality and efficiency of justice and a person of high ideals, character and integrity.  To be eligible a judge must be a full time sitting judge.  Judges on senior status are eligible if they continue to be active on the bench.  A nominee not selected shall be removed from consideration three (3) years following his or her nomination, unless re-nominated. Box 2168, Jackson, MS  39225-2168, with a biographical profile of the nominee and a short narrative (double spaced) explaining your reasons for the nomination. Nominations may also be emailed to Larry Houchins at houchins@msbar.org. The deadline for award nominations to be received is March 31.
