(JACKSON, MS)— Judge S. Trent Favre of Bay St. Louis received the 2020 Judicial Excellence Award presented during The Mississippi Bar’s 2020 Annual Business Session held on July 17, 2020.
The Bar’s Board of Commissioners established the Judicial Excellence Award to recognize judges who exceed the call of their judicial office. Recipients are considered to exemplify judicial excellence through leadership in advancing the quality and efficiency of justice and to possess high ideals, character, and integrity. Judge Favre received this honor for his outstanding leadership, efficiency in the field of jurisprudence, and his character and integrity.
Judge Favre is the first jurist to sit on the bench for the County Court of Hancock County. His appointment began January 1, 2018, the date that the Court became active. When he took the bench, there were 389 Hancock County children in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services. As of January 1, 2020, the number of Hancock County children in the agency’s custody has been reduced by 73% to 105.
Judge Favre held several roles in public and community service prior to his appointment to the bench. He served as City Attorney for Bay St. Louis and was an Assistant Prosecutor for both Bay St. Louis and the Hancock County Justice Court. Judge Favre represented Hancock Medical Center’s Board of Trustees and the Hancock County E-911 Commission.
Judge Favre graduated cum laude from Millsaps College in 1996, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with a minor in French. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1999.
