Sacred Heart Catholic School Earns Statewide High School Mock Trial Championship Title

Sacred Heart Catholic School Team 1, coached by attorney Don Hinton, Carey Varnado and Richard Filce, won the Championship Round of the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition. The statewide competition was held at the Hinds County Courthouse on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2. Sacred Heart Catholic School will represent Mississippi in the National High School Mock Trial Competition in Athens, Georgia, on May 16-18. MSMS earned the second place trophy gavel, coached by Scott Colom and Collen Hudson. The following schools earned the remainder of the top six positions: Sacred Heart Catholic School Team 2, third place, coached by Don Hinton, Carey Varnado and Richard Filce; Oxford High School Team 1, fourth place, coached by Keith Pearson and Christine Tatum; St. Andrew's Episcopal School, fifth place, coached by Walter Johnson and Susan Steffey; and Brandon High School Team 1, sixth place, coached by Judge Kent McDaniel, Judge Haydn Roberts and Michael Wolf. A special thanks to all of the attorney coaches and judges who volunteered their valuable time to help with this Young Lawyers Division law related education program in its 36th year.
