of our state. Many counties in our great State have lawyers who are getting older and retiring. This is great for them, but unfortunately this is leaving these counties without lawyers to draft deeds, last wills and testaments, contracts, serve school boards, and defend people charged with crimes. This is an economic development issue for these communities. Dean John Anderson of the Mississippi College School of Law and Dean Fred Slabach of the University of Mississippi School of Law have recognized this as an issue and an opportunity for their students. I plan to work with them and Chief Justice Michael K. Randolph to create a plan to address this issue and hopefully create a way to recruit lawyers to these legal deserts. I look forward to working with members and Bar staff this year to leave The Mississippi Bar better than I found it. Please reach out if I can ever be of assistance to you.
