The law school relationscommittee plans to discuss alternativesto on-campus interviews for securingemployment after law school.Robert Arledge and the BarAdmissions Ceremony Committee hosted the swearing-in of 24 new attorneysat the Spring Bar Admissions CeremonyApr. 24 at the Supreme Court GartinJustice Building.Our Law-Related EducationCommittee, chaired by Bud Sheppard,has been working to spread the wordabout our Lawyer in Every Classroominitiative. Any teacher (Kindergartenthrough 12th Grade) is invited to havea lawyer visit for one class period.We ask that you encourage your children%u2019s teachers to sign up, and anattorney will coordinate with their classschedule.Matt Dalton has served as ourNominations, Elections, and AwardsCommittee Chair this year, and his committee recommended three outstandingYLD members for consideration for theS. MARK WANN has 37 years of generallitigation experience, representing plaintiffsand defendants in a wide variety ofdisputes in state and federal court,including the United States Supreme Court.He has also litigated extensively usingalternative dispute resolution forums. Montgomery, Lane W. Staines, andVictoria V. Washington. The YLD extendsour heartfelt congratulations to ChristinaNunez and the five newest members ofthe Fellows.Our local affiliates are continuing toengage throughout the state. In February,Jackson Young Lawyers hosted a diversity panel. JYL is also in the process ofrevamping their website in order to try tobetter publicize events. The Oxford AreaYoung Lawyers also met this spring fora trivia night. On March 27, the WarrenCounty Young Lawyers hosted Cocktailswith the Court, where Judge Marcie T.Southerland discussed young lawyersbeing involved with youth and countycourts. I also had the pleasure of attending the Warren County Young Lawyersmeeting March 31 to share about YLD.Warren County Young Lawyers arealso assisting with the All Rise YouthSummer Camp June 2-6 in Vicksburg.The free day camp is open to studentsentering grades 7-12 and seeks to introduce area youth to the world of law,justice, and leadership.I encourage all young lawyers toplug into their local affiliate groups tolearn more about what the YLD does,and I am excited to see what the YLDaccomplishes the remainder of this year.It has been an honor and a privilegeto serve as President of the YLD thisyear. I am especially thankful for thesupport and encouragement of our Barpartners, Chad Phillips and Missye Scott.While we have increased engagementwith Mississippi%u2019s young lawyers thisyear, we are truly just getting started.The YLD will be in good hands withAnna Rush at the helm, and I look forward to seeing what she and her teamaccomplish next year.In closing, I am profoundly gratefulto have had this opportunity, and I lookforward to continuing to serve our profession in the years to come.
