After earning an undergraduate degree from Millsaps College, she earned a Juris Doctorate from the Mississippi College School of Law. Gregory was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1995. Griffith was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1976.In his career, Griffith worked for the Republican National Committee, was the executive director of the Mississippi Republican Party, and was the southern political director for George H.W. Bush's 1988 presidential campaign. Following Bush's election as president, Griffith worked in the George H.W. Bush Administration. He served as Special Assistant to the President as the liaison to the nation's governors and other statewide elected officials. President Bush later nominated Griffith as Assistant Secretary of Education and after confirmation by the U.S. Senate in 1992, he served in that role. In 1993, he was a founding partner of BGR Group in Washington.PAUL L. HALATPaul L. Halat, 79, of Ocean Springs, died September 25, 2024. He earned an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Halat lived in California where he taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years. He later retired to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.HELEN HANCOCKHelen Hancock, 72, of Biloxi, died April 18, 2024. She earned an undergraduate degree from Purdue University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. She was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1991. During her career, Hancock worked at the U.S. District Court in Biloxi (now located in Gulfport) until her retirement in 2014.DOROTHY J. %u201cD.J.%u201d HORECKYDorothy J. %u201cD.J.%u201d Horecky, 84, of Jackson, died December 13, 2024. She earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Juris Doctorate from the Mississippi College School of Law. Horecky was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1985 and practiced real estate law throughout her career.PATRICK H. %u201cPETE%u201d JOHNSON, JR.Patrick H. %u201cPete%u201d Johnson, Jr., 76, of Clarksdale, died January 20, 2025. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and a Juris Doctorate from Jackson School of Law (now Mississippi College School of Law) After his admittance to The Mississippi Bar in 1974, he worked for more than 10 years as a bank officer in Clarksdale. Later, Johnson was elected Mississippi%u2019s State Auditor and served from 1988-1992. He was appointed in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush to serve as Mississippi State Director of the Farmers Home Administration. Later, he was appointed by President George W. Bush as Federal Co-Chair for the Delta Regional Authority, and after confirmation by the U.S. Senate, he held that position from 2002-2011. J. MAX KILPATRICKJ. Max Kilpatrick, 79, of Philadelphia, died December 10, 2024. He earned an undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1973. Kilpatrick practiced law in Philadelphia while representing his part of the state in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1972-1980. He later was elected District Attorney for the 8th Circuit Court District, served as board attorney for the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors, and spent six years as Chancellor for the 6th Chancery Court District. Lastly, he served as a Referee for the Kemper County Youth Court until his retirement in 2022. As a member of the Mississippi National Guard, he retired after 26 years with the rank of Major.JEFFREY A. %u201cJEFF%u201d KLINGFUSSJeffrey A. %u201cJeff%u201d Klingfuss, 70, of Jackson, died January 30, 2025. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota at Duluth, and a Juris Doctorate from the Mississippi College School of Law. Klingfuss was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1992 and worked as a Special Assistant Attorney General during his career. He also served as an adjunct professor at MC School of Law.THOMAS C. \Thomas C. \earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law, and a Master of Laws from New York University School of Law. While at UM law school, Lacey was editor of the law journal. He was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1982. Lacey worked over the course of his career at Butler Snow and at Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush, specializing in business and tax planning, estate planning and tax controversies. He was a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and chaired both the Estates and Trusts Section and the Taxation Section of The Mississippi Bar. In the American Bar Association, he was a member of both the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section and the Taxation Section.W. LARRY LATHAMW. Larry Latham, 81, of Madison, died February 14, 2025. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1969. Latham first maintained a private practice focused on personal injury, then went into partnership with Todd Burwell in the firm Latham and Burwell. Later in his career, he focused on mediation, completing more than 1,750 mediations and arbitrations before his retirement in 2022.
