His funeral was held October 30 in Jackson.In 1980, Larry was appointed as the third ExecutiveDirector of The Mississippi Bar. At the time hewas the youngest Bar Executive Director in theUnited States. Prior to that, Larry had served for 4years as Executive Director of the Mississippi TrialLawyers Association. Larry held the Bar's ExecutiveDirectorship for 37 years until his retirement in2017, making him the longest-serving ExecutiveDirector in the Bar's history.The Mississippi Bar recognized Larry%u2019senduring impact with its Lifetime AchievementAward in 2017, honoring his decades ofdevotion to the public, the profession, andthe administration of justice.Larry%u2019s service extended far beyondthe Bar itself. He was a two-time Presidentof the Mississippi Society of AssociationExecutives, where he received theorganization%u2019s Outstanding AssociationExecutive Award. Nationally, he was amember of the National Associationof Bar Executives, which honoredhim with its highest distinction, theBolton Award, for professionalism andachievement.Upon Larry's retirement in 2017,then-Bar President Briggs Hopson said,\steady hand in times of turbulence andhas played an integral part in ensuringthe Bar's success for generations to come.Larry is the consummate professional.We attorneys pride ourselves in bringinga balanced, reasonable approach tosolving all types of conflicts.Though not an attorney,Larry Houchins does this aswell as anyone I have everknown.
