The Program

From time to time, lawyers and clients disagree about the cost of services provided.  Traditionally, these disputes were handled through the court system.  The court system often proved to be costly and time consuming for both parties.

The Fee Dispute Resolution Committee of the Mississippi Bar was established to provide clients and lawyers with an alternative to the court system.  The fee dispute program allows clients and lawyers to engage in either mediation or arbitration to resolve disagreements about fees.  It is a free program.  Neither the client nor the lawyer is required to use the program.  In order for the Committee to have jurisdiction over the dispute, each party must independently agree to participate in the process.

For more information, please refer to the Rules of the Committee.
