COVID-19 Court and Operations Updates

The Mississippi Bar is carefully monitoring the situation related to coronavirus (COVID-19) and will be continuously reviewing advisories issued by the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

We will be making decisions on a case by case basis related to the continuation of Bar events and operations in order to ensure the safety of our Members and staff.  We will notify Members of any disruptions to Bar events or operations by posting to our website and social media accounts as well as emailing enrolled participants.  President Amanda Tollison has sent a letter out to all Members regarding the situation.

Even with the uncertainty of the time, attorneys are still required to follow the ethical obligations set forth in the Mississippi Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC).

Safety and Wellness Tips:

As the COVID-19 situation increases, many of us will be fearful for ourselves, others, and the future. Here are some tips on taking care of your mental health.

We also encourage our Members to follow issued healthcare guidance related to coronavirus, including:

  • Staying home if you are sick, and avoiding close contact with anyone who is ill.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Washing your hands frequently and thoroughly.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that are touched often.

Federal and State Government Updates:

Governor Tate Reeves has officially addressed the COVID-19 situation through a Proclamation declaring a state of emergency and issuing multiple Executive Orders which are posted on the Secretary of State's website. Click here for Executive Order 1467 temporarily modifying in-person requirements for notarization and click here for guidance related to the Order from Secretary of State Michael Watson.
